Stephen's Blogs – Stephen Hon's Blogs (韓啟年)

Initially my name was Steven but I have changed it to Stephen. When I am studying in secondary school (St. Paul Institution, Seremban) at the 80′s I used to stay with my cousins at a clinic and saloon operated by my uncle and aunt.

During that time, you don’t even have heard of the word Internet as these computer networks are mainly used by Universities (or armies) for research and data communication and not yet open up to be accessed by the public.

Snail mails was the hits among us teenagers during that moment and we are using pen-pals column on magazines or newspapers to make new friends. There is no such thing as Facebook or other social media like nowadays.

We wrote to each other and need to wait for week before receiving the reply. Some due to the other party busy preparing for school examinations or other things. Sometime it is due the delay by the post office to deliver the mails. You are consider lucky when you can received it within next 3 days.

Then why it has connection with my name? Well… The reason is simple. If have only one person by the name of “Steven Hon” should be no problem but what if have more than one? Then the REAL problem arised! It ended up I open my cousin letter and he read mine. To avoid the unnecessarily problem, I decided to change it to “Stephen Hon” and since then I have been getting used to it. It has became my favourite though once a while there are still people have called me “Steven” You can read more about the name origin and history here.
