Every year approximately 2,000 Malaysians develop kidney failure and about 50% of these patients have no access to dialysis treatment because they cannot afford the high fees in private hospitals or they cannot gain access to government hospitals or affordable dialysis centres.
Kidney patients have to endure this painful dialysis treatment for the rest of their lives just to lead a “normal” life, unless they undergo a kidney transplant. The normal cost of one dialysis treatment is at least RM 200, which adds up to about RM 2,600 or more per month.
